Auto vehicle sales totaled 73,602 units in the first nine months of 2014, the year-on-year growth being mainly due to passenger cars which registered a growth of 27 per cent (28.1 per cent for local passenger cars and 26.5 per cent for imported passenger cars). With a total volume of 9,128 units sold in September the local market grew by 12 per cent compared to the same month last year.

 

When it comes to auto vehicles, the top brands were Dacia (20,213 units sold, 32.9 per cent of the total), Volkswagen (6,369 units, 10.4 per cent), Skoda (5,742 units, 9.4 per cent), Ford (4,365 units, 7.1 per cent), Renault (4,188 units, 6.8 per cent) and Opel (2,786 units, 4.5 per cent). In what concerns the models, Dacia Logan was the best-sold model in September (but also after the first nine months of 2014), followed by Dacia Duster, Volkswagen Golf, Skoda Octavia and Dacia Logan MCV.

 

In Romania the sales of auto vehicles continue to be supported by the purchases made by juridical persons, representing 71 per cent of the total sales volume registered in the first nine months of 2014. The share of purchases made by physical persons dropped from 41 per cent in May to 31 per cent in September.

 

During the period analyzed, the sales of used auto vehicles dropped by approximately 3.9 per cent (6,500 units) compared to the same period last year. Nevertheless, their volume (approximately 160,000 units in 2014) remains high compared to the volume of new auto vehicles (approximately three times higher), despite being lower compared to 2013 (when the ratio was 4:1 in favor of used cars after nine months).

 

The national production of auto vehicles totaled 287,413 units in the first three quarters of 2014, down by 6.7 per cent compared to the same period last year. Of those, 244,072 units (85 per cent) were produced by Dacia, 43,336 (15 per cent) by Ford and 5 units by Roman Brasov.

 

The highest production volumes after nine months were registered by Dacia Duster (119,443 units, of which 17,766 in September), followed by Dacia Logan (61,043 units, 5,472 in September), Ford B-MAX (43,336 units, 4,781 in September), Dacia Sandero (32,951 units) and Dacia Logan MCV (30,675 units).

 

“A number of 34,181 units were exported in September 2014, which means exports totaled 266,352 units after nine months, representing a 2.1 per cent drop compared to the same period last year.
