The construction, actually started in 2019, covers about 10 hectares and will be serviced by 100 employees.

Günter von Au, chairman of Clariant's board of directors, said there had been several setbacks since construction began, with the pandemic and the start of the war in Ukraine being the most difficult. 

The company's representatives said that there are contracts with 300 farmers from Oltenia, who will supply the straw that will be transformed into bioethanol.

The state-of-the-art plant will process about 250,000 tons of straw to produce 50,000 tons of cellulosic ethanol per year.
