This major investment will contribute to increasing the port’s total capacity by approximately 340,000 tons of cargo per year.
The project strengthens the role of the Port of Constanța as a multimodal logistics hub and reinforces its position as a regional hub on the TEN-T corridor.
The event brought together representatives from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, CSCT, consultants, and collaborators.
The moment marked the completion of the new approximately 12-hectare multimodal platform under financing contract no. 19/2024, concluded with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure as the Managing Authority for the Transport Program 2021-2027. Implemented in two programming stages (05.04.2023 – 31.12.2025), the investment will increase the volumes of cargo loaded and unloaded at CSCT, boosting traffic at the Port of Constanța by approximately 340,000 tons per year. The lack of adequate storage platforms previously limited the Port of Constanța from fully exploiting the capacity of its quays.
In the first stage, carried out through POIM 2014-2020, activities included the preparation of the technical design and execution work for the initial phase.
The continuation and completion of the works were carried out in phase 2 of the project, financed through the Transport Program 2021-2027.
The operationalization of this terminal area has transformed a previously undeveloped land into a solid concrete port platform. Its zones are specifically designed for handling and storing oversized cargo, project cargo, and containers intended for open-air storage. Additionally, the targeted results included the construction of an access gate, a water network, a CCTV system, and an electrical network.
The terminal will allow fast and uninterrupted transport of goods, both by rail and road, to final destinations, contributing to increased connectivity and integrating Constanța into the main European logistics routes.
The main beneficiaries of this investment are: Constanța South Container Terminal as the direct beneficiary, the National Company Maritime Ports Administration Constanța S.A., infrastructure users, and the entire population of Romania.
The phased project has a total value of RON 389,929,032.46, of which the EU co-financing is RON 80,213,113.79, broken down as follows:
POIM 2014-2020: RON 32,096,585.65, of which RON 20,024,712.36 – Cohesion Fund and RON 3,533,772.76 – National Budget
Transport Program 2021-2027: RON 357,832,446.81 (total value), of which RON 153,358,682.06 (RON 76,679,341.03 – Cohesion Fund and RON 76,679,341.03 – National Budget)
