The value of the investment stands at approximately EUR 150 M, and the works, which entailed the rehabilitation of the boiler, turbine and auxiliary installations, as well as the modernization of the electric and automation installations, were meant to lower the plant’s own consumption of energy, to boost its efficiency, reliability and security of exploitation, and to increase its lifespan by 15 years.

“The works started in the autumn of 2012 and the preparations for them started at the end of 2011 through design, completion of procurements, signing of contracts. (…) The technological upgrade was done in a record time, for example there were power groups in Turceni which underwent modernization which represents 60 per cent of this one and that process took 6-7 years. (…) The tests were carried out last week and today (Tuesday – editor’s note) power group 4 is receiving bids, is placed in parallel, it has nominal production, fulfilling all environment terms. At this hour this is probably the most modern power group in the country,” Laurentiu Ciurel pointed out.

According to CEO’s strategy, in the future the number 5 block of the Rovinari thermal power plant will undergo a similar process of rehabilitation in order to lower its consumption, CO2 emissions and to boost its reliability. (source: nineoclock.ro)
