The new facility in Târnăveni plays a key role in a complex European energy context, with its impact felt across the region as it serves markets such as Bulgaria, the Republic of Moldova, Serbia, Greece, Hungary, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia — countries with significant energy-saving potential.

According to official data, gas consumption in residential buildings could be reduced by more than 50% through the use of modern insulation solutions, directly contributing to the achievement of Europe’s climate objectives. Currently, over 85% of buildings in Romania were constructed before the adoption of modern energy efficiency standards. The Târnăveni factory provides the insulation solutions needed for both new buildings and sustainable renovations, supporting the European Union’s goals for climate neutrality and reduced energy consumption.

“Knauf Insulation brings decades of expertise and proven solutions to help Romania adopt the best European practices in energy efficiency. Our Târnăveni factory, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, has an annual production capacity of 75,000 tons of glass mineral wool — enough to insulate up to 200,000 homes each year,” said Alexander Knauf, Member of the Knauf Group.

Dominique Bossan, CEO for Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, added: “This facility sets a new benchmark for Knauf Insulation, being the most modern and technologically advanced glass mineral wool factory in the region. It reflects our long-term commitment to Central and Eastern Europe and our dedication to delivering innovative and energy-efficient solutions that foster regional growth and sustainability.”

Radek Bedrna, Managing Director for Eastern Europe and the Middle East, emphasized: “The Târnăveni factory represents a turning point for the entire region — its strategic location allows us to respond swiftly to growing demand, reduce logistics costs, and strengthen regional competitiveness. At the same time, it demonstrates our strong commitment to environmental responsibility.”

Adrian Garofeanu, General Manager of Knauf Insulation Romania and Bulgaria, stated: “The opening of this factory marks an investment in the future. Its products use ECOSE Technology®, offering excellent thermal, acoustic, and fire-safety performance with a reduced environmental footprint. Romania is becoming a regional hub for innovation and sustainability, and the Târnăveni factory contributes to energy-efficient renovations, job creation, and the development of local communities and the economy.”
