This new logistics centre is the group’s third in Romania and it was inaugurated in Bacau county, Nicolae Bălcescu commune, following EUR 19 million investement.
The capacity of the new logistics hub could increase to 90-100 stores from 45 currently serviced. The investment created more than 150 jobs.
The development of the logistics centre was done by the company KÉSZ Holding Zrt., Cluj-Napoca branch and includes 19,000 sqm, 14.5 m of height and a plot of land of nearly 8 hectares.

“The project is part of our strategy to develop Penny Market’s national distribution network and comes in addition to our two existing centres in Bucharest and Turda,” said Daniel Gross, general manager REWE Romania.

The logistics centre in Bacau was created with the aid of modern technological solutions in order to decrease energy consumption, footprint and CO2 emissions. The centre uses a full LED lighting system with automated command and control, reducing the energy consumption with 40 pct.

The cooling system is integrated in an automated management system which will constantly monitor both interior and exterior temperatures of the refrigerating area.

Penny Market entered the local market in 2005, currently REWE Romania group owns 200 Penny Market stores all over the country. Moreover, six of the XXL Mega Discount stores, owned by REWE Romania, will be converted to Penny Market stores in 2017. (source: economica.net)
