In order to cover this demand, the plant’s annual production will have to surpass the current level of 400,000 units per year. In addition, it will have to employ both assembly line workers and product quality specialists. The job openings announcement has been posted on VeloCity Resita’s website for several weeks now. It is estimated that the plant’s number of employees will reach 350 in 2016.

VeloCity Resita assembles bicycles for Decathlon, the French sporting goods retailer. This is the company’s only client. Decathlon is present in Romania too and was the client that ordered 1 million bicycles to be delivered in 2016 and 2017.

In 2008, the year production started, VeloCity Resita was producing a single model. It currently produces over 20 models and its overall production surpasses 2 million bicycles. The bicycle rims section opened in 2014, following an investment of approximately EUR 1 M, and has a production capacity of 200-240 bicycle rims per hour.

For the near future, the plant’s leadership seeks to make VeloCity Resita the top producer in Europe. This means diversifying its products and boosting its production capacity.

VeloCity plant’s activity is currently managed by NextCity S.A., a national leader in the bicycle manufacturing domain, covering 45 per cent of Romania’s bicycle production, according to the Confederation of European Bicycle Industries (CONEBI) data.

According to Decathlon, the Resita-based plant assembles the products, a significant part of the components being imported from Europe and Asia. Decathlon, one of the most important players on the global sporting goods market, produces, under the management of various companies, bicycles, leather shoes and clothing in Romania.
