Employer labor costs increased by 14.3% in Romania in 2017, compared with the same quarter of 2016, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
In the fourth quarter of 2017, hourly working time adjusted for working days saw a growth rate of 1.29% over the previous quarter.

Compared to the same quarter of the previous year, labor cost per hour increased in all economic activities.
On the main activities of the economic sector, the highest increases in the hourly labor cost (in terms of number of working days adjusted) were found in performances, cultural and recreational activities (28.73%), mining and quarrying 21.56%) and in administrative and support service activities (16.61%), mainly due to the application of the legal provisions in the field.

In the budgetary sector there were increases in the hourly labor cost (in working-day adjusted form) as a result of the application of the legal provisions for the staff paid out of public funds, as follows: in public administration by 27.58%, in health and social assistance by 18.56% and in education by 16.81%.
