In fact, German auto parts companies have set up a lot of plants in Romania, especially in central and western regions. The same goes for large companies from France, Japan and the United States. And that is because the labour force in Romania is cheap and skilled.

According to ziare.com.ro, there are 600 auto industry companies in Romania, 203,000 Romanians being employed in this sector.

The average cost of the labour force is EUR 4.9 per hour, the lowest in the EU. Most companies in this domain are located in western Romania, in order to ease exports and the transport of auto parts toward Western European markets.

Last year the auto industry registered a turnover of EUR 18 bln, auto parts plants being responsible for EUR 12.6 bln of that. (source: nineoclock.ro)
