The transmissions will be designed for German limousines such as E-Klasse or S-Klasse, which cost over EUR 50,000. Romania has only manufactured transmissions for utility cars such as Vito so far. Last year, Daimler announced it would invest over EUR 300 million in Romania to expand production of gear boxes for Mercedes-Benz cars at the local Star Transmission subsidiary in Sebes.

Star Assembly received EUR 37.4 million in state aid to construct an automatic transmission production unit in Sebes and the overall investment amounted to ca. EUR 238 million, according to the Government website. The same source estimates the German group’s investment will create 510 new jobs. (source: nineoclock.ro)
