Ponta said the plan was to secure full financing through the Sector Operational Programme for transportation, but possible contestations might delay the project.

The master plan states precise deadlines and financing sources for the feasibility studies, as well as a schedule for the execution, the prime minister added. The document has to be approved by the government before being sent to the Parliament, then to the European Commission.

‘I believe it and I repeat it: all those who claimed such a road infrastructure investment was necessary are perfectly right; not just for connecting with the Republic of Moldova, but also for the possibility of developing the whole region, and for the ultimately historical and national goal of linking Moldova to Transylvania, across the mountains, by a motorway network,’ Ponta declared, quoted by Agerpres.
