“The opening of traffic on the third section of the Orastie-Sibiu Highway will take place on November 14,” CNADNR informs.

The construction of this section of highway started in 2011 and at first the section should have been completed in the spring of 2013. Because of landslides the deadline could not be met. Considering that in 2012 and 2013 CNADNR also inaugurated the Deva-Orastie highway section (32.5 km) and plots 1, 2 and 4 of the Orastie-Sibiu section (a total of 60 km), starting on Friday Romanians will be able to use a highway between Deva and Sibiu (almost 115 km), a highway whose length is similar to that of the Bucharest-Pitesti highway.

The constructor of the third plot of the Orastie-Sibiu highway is Italian company Impregilo, the value of the contract standing at EUR 138 M. “Yes, it will most likely open on Friday,” Transport Minister Ioan Rus confirmed.

Asked whether the landslide problems have been solved, the minister stated that there is still work to be done but the highway section is safe for drivers. “There will still be work to be done there, but traffic safety will not be affected. Works will continue on access roads,” Ioan Rus added. (Source: nineoclock.ro)
